No BA, QA, or Programming Managers
... or Productive Programmer Anarchy
Presenter: Fred George, Forward Internet Group
Format: 15-20 min; 10 min Q&A (or lynching)
Agile practices have been pushed to such an extent in Forward, that many of the "standard" roles and processes have fallen away. And they are not missed!
In this talk, we will focus primarily on how certain roles have been made redundant, replaced instead by integration between the business and development. The core Agile mantra driving these changes is "fast failure"; that is, ensuring that all work gets used quickly, accepting some failures as inevitable. Rather than trying to prevent such failures, we focus on reversing those changes that fail very quickly. The results have been a reduction in delivery time (sometimes to hours), as well as removing the need for certain roles.
Having the entire development team be actual programmers has also reduced our cost and contributed to triple-digit year-on-year business growth.
We will wrap up with identifying the circumstances where we don't believe these ideas could apply.
